4Gb Screenless Zenstone?

Does anyone know if there's a 4 gb Zenstone that's screenless like the ones with 1 and 2 gb? I've got a 2 and love it but really want to upgrade to a 4. If not, is there another company that makes a screenless one with that kind of memory?

It's an mp3 player. It's wonderful and simple to use. You don't need software, just a usb port on your computer. It works with Windows and Mac (probably other operating systems too) and it's tiny so it can fit right in your pocket.

there once was a 4 gig, but I can't find it. I also have the 2 gig, and love it! I wonder if they stopped making them?? I couldn't find the 2 gig anymore either.

I'm not sure, Eleni. I have a Zen stone, and love it, too. I want to upgrade to a 4 gig one, but haven't, because of money, so I haven't looked all that hard for one. Now that I'm in a slightly better financial position, I'd like to find one myself. Have you looked for a 4 gig one, and they all have screens on them? Or have you just not been able to find any of the 4 gig ones in general?

I've looked and have only found the Zenstone Plus with the screens. I'm not even sure if there is a 4gb screenless one. The 2gb ones can definitely be found. You just need to know where to look. I believe that yes, Creative has stopped making them, but I could be wrong.

According to Amazon they've been out of stock on the 4gb models for a while, which leads me to believe Creative's stopped making them.
Has anyone tried the Sandisc Sansa players? They come in 1 and 2gb usually but they have an sd card slot so they could be supporting up to 32gb for additional $50 if they support the SDHC format, which most sd card supporting players do. I just don't know if they are accessible without RockBox mainpulation so I haven'ted tried them.

That's why I want something simple and screenless. I don't want to have to deal with software and nonsense. I did hear that some mp3 players use compact flash cards, so I may see if I could find one of those. But I'm not sure if they're easy-to-use. Anyway, the regular 4gb Zenstones are out there, but whether they're as nice as the 2gb ones remains to be seen.

I just upgraded to a 4 GB via Ebay. I got it for £55. It came with a black silicon skin and belt clip as well as the earbuds and USB connecter which come as standard in the packet with it. Nearly managed to get all my favourite tracks on there, which is an awful lot, seeing as it holds 2000 songs plus, lol. Screened or screenless? Doesn't really matter does it? I mean, a Zenstone is a Zenstone after all! Same buttons, same functions unless you have the ones with speakers like my new Zenstone or the ones with the FM tuners like my old Zenstone.

Yeah, I'd like one with a speaker but don't need the fm radio, since I don't like digital tuners and these days, radio is boring. Anyway, I'll check ebay. Thanks for the idea.

try creative lab's muvo t100. It's a 4 gig screenless mp3 player very similar to the 2 gig zen stone. I have both and the 4 gig works great. I've got about 500 songs on it right now with plenty of room to spare. I got it for $36. Try www.creativelabs.com

Opa! I'll try it out. And at that price, I can't go wrong. . *smile*

Well, I couldn't find the 4gb Zenstone on ebay but I did find a muvo t100 for $14, including shipping! *does happy dance* So it's just as easy to use? Ca I add music into it the same way or do I need to use software? This is really amazing.

Post 14 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 10-Dec-2009 3:20:07

I've never used a Muvo, so I can't speak to its accessibility. But it must be, because I have all kinds of blind friends who have used it, and were very happy with it. Might have to get one myself. Isn't it made by the same people who make the Zen Stone?

Post 15 by Eleni21 (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Thursday, 10-Dec-2009 12:54:42

If it's screenless, I don't see how it can be inaccessible. *smile* Yes, Creative makes both.

no software involved. You put music on the same way as the zen stone.

I ordered it a few days ago so am just waiting for it to come in. They said it was used, but so long as it works, who cares? For $14, I think it was an excellent buy.

Okay, as an mp3 veteran, I have to say that it's not screens that're the problem, but crappy controls. Right now, I have a Sansa player, it's a very new model, and there's a four-way control pad on it. I usually just have my player on shuffle, and listen to the news on the fm tuner. Beware of anything that is touch screen, or touch pad. I do have an older touch pad mp3 player, but the buttons are very close together, so it's easy to use. I bought another touch control player, and I had to give it to my nephew, cause the controls are very far apart. I always make sure the player's controls are described in detail before I'll consider buying one. none of the players I've owned required me to install software. they were all just plug and play. I use windows media to sync songs to my sansa, and it has never given me any problems.

I love love my Muvo! I've been using it now for awhile and it's wonderful. Sometimes, it turns the volume down instead of switching to the next song, but that's probably cause this is a used model. I don't use anything to sync my machine. I just copy and paste right into the player and it works beautifully. The great thing about this one is that, unlike with the Zenstone, the connector is built right in so I don't have to plug a wire into it to hook it up to the pc. I hate touchscreens on anything, which is one of the several reasons why I never got an IPod. I like real buttons and simple controls. I don't like digital radio tuners either.

The Zen Stone was never made in a 4 gig version. Creative made something called a MuVo T100, which was screenless and came in a 2 or 4 gig version, but its shape was more like a stick of chewing gum and had no built-in speaker. I had one for a while and liked it until the little switch used to skip folders broke on it. Flimsy thing. If you go to www.speaktomecatalog.com they have a small MP3 player that'll hold 4 gigs that is screenless. Some other places used to sell these but not sure if they still do or not.

From doing lots of research, anything above a 2 gig mp3 player, regardless of brand, usually has a screen. I also don't like mp3 players with flywheels, unless they click to let you know where you are. My sister uses an RCA player that has a screen, but also regular controls. Lots of players have fairly tactile controls, you just have to do your research. One of my players has a USB port built right in. I like that, cause it is very convenient. If you want a website that explains mp3 players and other devices, try www.cnet.com. I think the actual name of the sight is tech republic. This is th first place I go to research different mp3 players. They have their staff test them, and write very descriptive reviews, including when a player was launched. HTH.

As I've said, I now have the Muvo T100 and adore it. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants an excellent player that's easy to use. Very light weight, small and has up to ten hours battery life. The latter isn't that great, but it's an mp3 player, not a walkman so those are the breaks. As far as that site, I'll check it out, since I don't know of too many other players. They might be really good as well, and I'd love to hear about them for curiosity's sake.

Question about Zenstone 4 GB accessibility here, Recently, the "my short cut" button, somehow, was configured so it didn't go to the speaker any more. I'm not sure where it's taking me now though, since there's no screenreader or TTS available for Creative products as far as I know. I've been clicking all round the menus, trying to get it back the way it was so it just goes to the speaker from headphone enhancement like it did when I first took it out the box, I've tried reformatting the thing at least 3 times, even hitting the "reset all defaults" button on the 3rd attempt to reset the player, but obviously, the reset doesn't involve the menus, short cuts and play pause/power on/off buttons. I've also pressed the little reset button inside with the aid of a pin, but that hasn't helped either, so the only thing I can really do is post this and hope somebody knows how I can get in the menus and reconfigure the "my short cut" button again, back to the way it started out, as the speaker button.

What? Menus, my short cuts? What kind of Zenstone is that? Mine doesn't even have a screen. You should definitely try a Muvo T100. I got one and it's the best ever! Easy to use like the screenless Zenstone but holds 4gb instead of two.
